Black pashmina shawls

A plain pashmina shawl in Classic Black, and two one-of-a-kind black sozni heritage shawls.

Black is one of the 64 colours of our pure pashmina shawl, listed there as Classic Black and made to order. Lucr also has two black sozni shawls, each a one-of-a-kind heritage piece on a deep black ground, ready to ship. This page puts the three side by side.

Plain black or sozni black

The plain (sada) shawl has no embroidery or weave pattern, so the fibre and the colour carry the piece. It is light enough to wear year-round, over a coat or with Indian dress, and it is made after you order.

The sozni shawls are the other kind of black: a black ground worked with paisley and ornamental needlework in antique gold, muted rose and turquoise, on pashmina that is hand-spun and handwoven in Kashmir. A sozni piece can carry 200 or more hours of needlework, and each one here is the only one, so the shawl you see is the shawl you receive. The two differ in detail. The Ornamental Paisley Shawl in Black has contrasting black end panels and measures 54 by 104 inches; the Black Ornamental Paisley Shawl is built on symmetrical motifs with scrolling details and measures 40 by 80 inches. Choose plain black for quiet, repeated wear, and sozni black when the shawl is the statement. Read what sozni embroidery is, or see all sozni embroidered pashmina shawls.

Styling a black pashmina shawl

Black asks little of what it sits with. The plain shawl goes over a coat or with Indian dress. The sozni shawls suit tailored eveningwear or understated separates, and their pattern stands out most against a monochromatic outfit, where the ornament does the talking. They are catalogued as wedding pieces, so they also work for a wedding guest or a bride who wants a dark ground.

Caring for a dark-dyed pashmina

Dry clean only, and store the shawl folded in breathable cotton, away from direct sun, as with every Lucr shawl. Dark cloth shows fine lint and pale fibres more than a light colour does, so lift them off by hand rather than rubbing. The dyed plain shawl may vary slightly from the colour chip on your screen, so treat the chip as a guide. The care guide covers washing, moths, pilling and small repairs.
