How to Wear a Pashmina Shawl: 7 Ways
Seven simple ways to wear a pashmina shawl or stole, from the classic shoulder drape to a belted wrap, plus which size suits which style.

A pashmina shawl drapes better than most fabrics because the fibre is so fine and light. These seven ways cover almost every occasion. Stoles (around 70 × 200 cm) suit the neck styles; full shawls (around 100 × 200 cm) suit the wraps. See the size guide for exact dimensions.
- Shoulder drape. Open the shawl fully and lay it across both shoulders, ends falling evenly in front. The most formal look, and the right one for weddings and evening wear.
- One-shoulder throw. Drape it across the shoulders, then throw one end back over the opposite shoulder. Warm, and it stays put while you move.
- Loop knot. Fold a stole in half lengthways, put it round your neck and pull the loose ends through the loop. Neat under a coat.
- Simple wrap. Wrap a stole once round the neck and let both ends hang in front. Easy over a shirt or knit.
- Belted wrap. Drape a full shawl over the shoulders and cinch it at the waist with a thin belt, so it works as a light jacket.
- Head covering. A plain stole sits well over the head for religious occasions or cold wind, and pashmina is light enough not to slip.
- Travel blanket. A full shawl folds small and makes a warm, light blanket on flights and trains.
Tips that protect the fabric
Avoid brooches with sharp pins and bags with rough straps, which can pull threads. Let the shawl rest a day between wears so the fibres recover. Our care guide covers washing and storage.
